University of Iowa LGBTQ Clinic

UI Health Care's LGBTQ Clinic serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning community. 
Every member of our clinic staff has had LGBTQ-specific cultural humility training. Patients with disabilities and non-English speakers are welcome. Our clinic provides full-service health care to meet the LGBTQ health care needs


SAGE stands proudly with the LGBTQ+ pioneers across the country who’ve been fighting for decades for their right to live with dignity and respect. We are excited to work with the current administration and key staff in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco, plus our nationwide network of affiliates, to advocate for LGBTQ+ older people at the federal, state, and local levels.

Lavender Legal Center

Lavender provides direct representation, advocacy, and referrals, with a priority for serving those with low income and our LGTBQ youth. We strive to provide a safe space for everyone in the LGBTQ community to access legal representation and related advocacy. Lavender is here to make sure that to the extent possible, the legal system does not serve as a barrier to those in the LGBTQ community.

The LGBTQ Wealth Gap

LGBTQ people and communities suffer from a wealth gap: they have less earnings and wealth than their non-LGBTQ peers because of discrimination in earnings, a lack of quality information, public policies that do not address their needs, and discrimination in the marketplace for goods and services.


GLAAD is an American non-governmental media monitoring organization, founded as a protest against defamatory coverage of gay and lesbian people. Its agenda has since extended to LGBT and the entertainment industry and its portrayal of these groups.

Created in 1996 as, this website began with the simple goal of letting bi people know that they are not alone. When we first launched, there were virtually no online resources for the bi community and the few resources that were available were hard to find, highly sexualized, or catered to niche audiences. Since those early years we have grown into a huge global community.

Men Having Babies

Men Having Babies, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that was spun off in July 2012 from a program that ran at the NYC LGBT Center since 2005. It started as a peer support network for biological gay fathers and fathers-to-be, offering monthly workshops and an annual seminar.

LGBTQ Relationship Center of Iowa

The LGBTQ Relationship Center of Iowa provides:

  • Peer consultation for mental health providers

  •  Supervision for therapists in training interested in specializing in work with the LGBTQ community

  •  Psychotherapy services for individuals, couples/polyamorous partnerships, families, and groups (in-person, telehealth, and walk-and-talk outdoor therapy)

  •  Consultations with area businesses, organizations, and schools

  • Community presentations and education

Addiction Center

LGBTQ-specific treatment centers are sensitive to the needs of the LGBTQ community and address any underlying elements that may have caused an addiction.

The LGBTQ+ Guide to Online Safety

We at vpnMentor conducted a survey in which we asked LGBTQ+ people worldwide about their experiences online as they relate to their sexual orientation and gender identity. The results – referenced throughout this article – illuminated the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community.

interACT and NCTE have put this kit together for organizations and communities to better uplift and educate the importance of intersex issues and trans-intersex solidarity.  Within the kit you will find a comprehensive document covering messaging for some of the most pressing issues that face intersex and trans communities, as well as bite-size one-pagers. Life Connections - Rhonda's House

Rhonda’s House (Iowa’s Only Peer-run Respite Center) provides a safe and welcoming environment for individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis and who voluntarily choose temporary respite services to restore well-being and the ability to manage their lives. Rhonda’s House is an alternative to the more restrictive care of a locked psychiatric hospital facility.

The Movement Advancement Project (MAP) tracks over 50 different LGBTQ-related laws and policies.  This map shows the overall policy tallies (as distinct from sexual orientation or gender identity tallies) for each state, the District of Columbia, and the five populated U.S. territories. A state’s policy tally scores the laws and policies within each state that shape LGBTQ people's lives, experiences, and equality.
